Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year, people across the United States observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating and reflecting on the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans with ancestry from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.  ProspHire’s Mary Goetz shares her Latino history not just to share the story, but to also use her history to empower people to create a compassionate and equitable future.

“I am the proud daughter of a Cuban refugee, Dr. A. Julio Martinez. My father escaped from communist Cuba in 1962 as a stow away on a cargo ship headed to Bilbao, Spain. He wanted a better life and made it to NYC where he asked for political asylum. In 1976, he settled in Pittsburgh with my Irish American mother. My parents instilled in us Cuban, Irish and American values; be humble and work hard with a dedication to family, faith, friends and our community”. – Mary Goetz
